Compare Option Strikes With This by Tim Zurick
ARTICLE SYNOPSIS ...Compare Option Strikes With This by Tim Zurick
How do you compare options with different strikes, margin
requirements, and expiration dates? Here's a tool that will help
you make that decision.
More bang per buck: Many businessmen will tell
you that there is no more important factor in
financial decision-making. Option sellers face
a specific version of this decision: How should
limited margin dollars be allocated among possible
trades to maximize return on investment? Figure 1
frames the question.
Is option trading an investment? Perhaps not; in several
respects it is a unique class of trad...

Does The RSI Give You An Edge? by Larry Connors & Ashton Dorkins
ARTICLE SYNOPSIS ...Does The RSI Give You An Edge? by Larry Connors & Ashton Dorkins
The relative strength index has been heavily used since its
creation, but does it work for you?
The relative strength index (RSI) is one of the most
popular tools used by traders. As such, there are
many books and articles written showing how to
use RSI. Unfortunately, most of the published
material doesn't show any statistical evidence to support the indicator's performance. This is surprising, considering
how popular the RSI is and how many traders rely
upon it. Before using any indicator, it is important to test if the
indic...

Explore Your Options by Tom Gentile
ARTICLE SYNOPSIS ...Explore Your Options by Tom Gentile
NOT GETTING FILLED
I live in Europe and I often place my
orders outside of US market hours. I
almost always use limit orders between
the bid and ask. For example, I tried to
buy a call option the other day, but I did
not get filled because the stock opened
almost $2 higher than the previous day.
I know this is all part of the game, but
it's frustrating to watch a potential
trade go up by about 40% in two days
and missing out because I didn't get
filled. Is there anything I can do?
Some of your orders are not getting
filled for two very important reasons.

Forex Focus: Fundamentals Or Technicals? by Boris Schlossberg
ARTICLE SYNOPSIS ...Forex Focus: Fundamentals Or Technicals? by Boris Schlossberg
When two are better than one: Power up your forex
trading by combining fundamental and technical analyses.
Arguments between technical and fundamental traders
often become fanatically intense as one side tries
to prove the other wrong. Technicians assert that all news is discounted in price almost instantaneously and
therefore fundamental knowledge is of little use in determining
the forward direction of the move. Fundamentalists state
that technical analysis offers nothing but the summary of the
past price action. After all, just...

Futures For You by Dan O'Neil
ARTICLE SYNOPSIS ...Futures For You by Dan O'Neil
DON'T BE A SORE LOSER
I've been trading futures for a while
now, and I've followed all of the standard
advice about doing my research
and setting up a trading plan. However,
I've found it difficult to sit by when the
market starts to turn against my position.
My instinct tells me to take emergency
action and do whatever it takes
to get right again, but most of the "experts"
seem to agree that's a recipe for
disaster. In general, what is the best
way to handle a losing streak when
you're right in the middle of it?
Welcome to the club. Every successful
veteran tr...

Guided By Seasonal Indexes by Darin Newsom
ARTICLE SYNOPSIS ...Guided By Seasonal Indexes by Darin Newsom
Seasonal indexes can offer insight
into possible price targets.
Here's how.
We've all done it.
Whether you are
a banker, lawyer,
trader, or
analyst, we have
all caught ourselves staring wistfully out
the office window to see
spring turn to summer, then
autumn, and finally winter.
That is the seasonal cycle of
nature and it is just as true
watching commodity markets
on the computer screen as it
is looking out the window.
SEASONALITY IN
COMMODITIES
Commodities have seasonal
cycles that reflect the normal
supply and demand situation
of the individual...

BASIC SKILLS FOR DAYTRADERS
Don, since you think (pure) daytrading
is a limited style, then how do other
daytraders make profits? Could you tell
me some basic trading methods or skills
for daytraders?-- Anonymous
I'm not against daytrading, but I think
other strategies can augment your income.
Our new people learn how to do
"open-only orders" (OPG) on the NYSE.
We enter about 50 stocks, buys, and sell
shorts, based on fair value calculations.
Then, when a few of the stocks gap up or
down, they are filled only when the
specialist is filled. Why not trade on the
same side as ...

Short-Term Volume And Price Oscillator by Sylvain Vervoort
ARTICLE SYNOPSIS ...Short-Term Volume And Price Oscillator by Sylvain Vervoort
Using the turning points in the oscillator gives profitable
trades. Come look.
Before telling you about the construction and application
of the short-term volume and price oscillator
(SVAPO) I am using, let's talk about some basics
using an indicator as a buy & sell trigger. The indicator must have clear reversal points and be as fast as
possible on the entry side. The faster you can get in at a price
reversal, the tighter your initial stop-loss can be. This will save
you a lot of money on those trades that move the wrong way.
A trai...
